PIRT is the regional coordination mechanism for the Pacific Islands Framework for Nature Conservation 2021–2025 and the Vemööre Declaration. Initiated by Pacific Island countries and territories at the 6th Pacific Islands Conference on Nature Conservation and Protected Areas (1997).

Pacific Islands Framework 2021–2025
A regional framework.
The Framework — adopted at the 10th Pacific Conference (Noumea, 2020) alongside the Vemööre Declaration — sets the agenda all 18 PIRT members align behind. Consultation for the 2026–2030 Framework is now underway.
PIRT is the key coordination mechanism for the implementation of the Pacific Islands Framework for Nature Conservation and Protected Areas and the Vemööre Declaration. The pillars guide collective work across protected areas, species and the people who steward them.
Members report annually against the Framework; published progress is reviewed by the PIRT Secretariat at SPREP and discussed at each Annual Meeting.
